South Beach, Edgartown
Martha’s Vineyard’s most popular beach destination is South Beach in the Katama section of Edgartown.
South Beach, home of the Winnetu Oceanside Resort, is Martha’s Vineyard’s most popular beach destination with rolling surf that’s perfect for riding or swimming, a south-facing orientation for all-day sun and warmth, and miles of wide beach for walking, enjoying bird-watching activities or playing beach games. Travel & Leisure magazine named South Beach “One of the World’s Best Beaches,” in its January 2013 edition and its also been included on many other publications’ top lists. Once you’ve visited and enjoyed this spectacular national treasure, we’re sure you’ll agree with the accolades!
South Beach is also known for being one of the most popular beaches on the Island. In a poll administered on the marthas-vineyard.com website, which is a portal into everything about the Vineyard, respondents have picked South Beach as the “winner” of their favorite beach on the Island.
There are Life Guards on duty, in season, at South Beach from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Located at the southern tip of the island, Winnetu Oceanside Resort guests will enjoy the prevailing summer breezes from the southwest, which keep everyone comfortable and cool. After a morning or afternoon at South Beach, Winnetu guests can either bike to town on the bicycle path or take the Resort’s complimentary shuttles to/from Edgartown – at their leisure – for shopping, dining or sightseeing opportunities.
